It was certainly no dead disco. I had been slightly dubious before the gig when I bumped into a seemingly distracted Emily Haines, hood pulled up and hair over her face. But, moments later as Metric pounded onto the stage and exploding into song through the flashing lights, I instantly regretted doubting Canada's hottest woman in music. She carried the show by throwing herself into each song with such passion and severity that I was transfixed. Her sexy slur excited the adoring crowd, while her girlish tones mixed with some disturbing lyrics 'Monster hospital, can you please release me...' formed a brilliant contrast. Metric were completely immersed in their music, all four members seemed to be in a trance. They paid little attention to the crowd but were set in making each song as powerful as the last. Most songs were from their current album 'Live it out' apart from a remarkable, lengthy version of Dead Disco from their first album 'Old World Underground'. Forty minutes of this punky, funky new wave electro clash was not enough. I left feeling charged and thirsty for more.
