The Knife
The Forum, London
October 2006
By Zarina Raja
A late start for the highly anticipated Swedish brother and sister electro duo worked in their favour because in each minute that passed, the audience grew more and more excited. Finally, as two figures appeared on the stage, both masked and head to toe in black, the crowd seemed on the edge of combustion. Noise and colour flooded the venue as The Knife dived into their set. A huge screen displayed an interesting array of visuals whilst different forms of light bounced into the audience and back to the stage. There was constant movement from the crowd as The Knife made their way though various tracks from Deep Cuts, Silent Shout and The Knife. 'Heartbeats' received an incredible reception as did 'Kino' whose catchy lyrics 'I heard a puff, I heard a blow, I felt the sun, I saw the moon...' tipped their performance over the edge of brilliance. The Knife successfully encapsulated there London crowd with their fast, electronic and individual sound. For the entire gig a thin veil floated from the ceiling to the bottom of the stage dividing The Knife from its fans resulting in a mysterious and magical performance. I don't know there names and I couldn't see their faces but I didn't care. All that mattered was the music which is sometimes an element that gets lost in such an industry.
