Backstage Pass: Music fans unite... take a sneak peek at what goes on beyond the mosh pit.

ARTIST FEATURE: The Rolling Stones

the-rolling-stones819_MainPicture.jpgWhat do you think of when someone mentions The Rolling Stones? Perhaps the image of a big red tongue hanging out between a pair of bright red lips springs to mind. There's always the chance that the twisted mid-riff faces of Mick Jagger and guitarist Keith Richards flash through your subconsious. Maybe they've influenced you own band, the way you dressed, the way you still dress, or maybe they bring back distant memories of sweaty mosh pits and festival mayhem.

Then again, you might just think; "Simple... they're the best Rock band in history".

The simple fact is, The Rolling Stones have influenced us all. Whether you realise it or not, Mick Jagger and co shaped the face of British Pop and Rock music in the early 1960s. They gave it the wings to fly across the globe and smacked eardrums about as they went.

Personally, the band takes me back to my youth. My Dad listened to them when he was younger, my rocker Grandad pumped them out of his loud speakers and I'm sure my mum was a groupie. After all, dad's long black hair and tight jeans screamed "I wanna be a rock-star... if not, I'll just look like Jagger'. If you didn't fancy them, you wanted to play like them., and although lines of time are now etched into their iconic faces, young musicians still play the songs that rocked the world.

So... why are they so successful? They have released twenty-nine albums of original work and compilations, and have thirty-seven top-10 singles. Not bad for a lifetime's work.

Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Ron Wood and Charlie Watts are the current band members - Jagger and Richards the only two original rockers. It's no secret that the Stones had their fair share of rock moments in the past. When it came to drugs, sex and Rock'n'roll they didin't vut corners. Perhaps that is the reason they're so admired.

Now, as their UK tour approaches, the fans are crawling out from their respectable lives... staight into the raw, live Rock moments that the Stones magically manage to re-create. They may seem like Energiser batteries dressed in black, but high quality live acts don't last forever.

We're keen to know why people love them so much, and what special moments the band represent in your life. A drunken snog with the girl everyone wanted, driving your first beat-up car, windows down and the Stones on full throttle. Post your best Stones memories in the comments section, along with messages for the guys. If you've seen them live, we want all the gory details.
