This is a couble whammy guys... for those of you looking for a BIG Saturday night in London (aren't we all?), head down to ULU for Nneka's gig. Or, if you're poverty stricken and don't mind getting up early, you can catch her at the free Fopp gig on Sunday.
"Who is Nneka?!" ... you cry! If you haven't heard of her you're forgiven; she does, after all, hail from Nigeria. She's hot on the tip of the music world's tongue though so make sure you register her name at the top of your memory bank. Hip Hop and Soul have a new leading lady.
She's got big hair and even bigger talent and we're chatting to her this afternoon... until then, wrap your peepers around her gig details and full bio below. Go on, ditch the St Paddy's Day debauchery in favour of some great tunes.
The lowdown:
Nneka was born in a small town called Warri in Nigeria and perfected her singing talents in the school choir. She then relocating to Germany which has been home for the last 5 years.
She's got some top mates in the business and has worked with DJ Farhot (Hit Spot Productions) and Maskoe and The Chosen Few Crew (Short Lord, Sensai Miyagie, Antonio, Seven 30 a.o.). After finishing her debut EP The Uncomfortable Truth she hit Europe and a heavy live schedule. Not everyone gets to support the likes of Femi Kuti, Seeed, Sean Paul and Gnarls Barkley. She even performed in Holloway prison in London. (We'll chat to her about that later). Check her, and her new single 'God of Mercy' out at:
