Interview by Katie Spain
Have you ever been behind the scenes of one of London's big music venues?
This week, I had the chance to watch Jamie T's sound check before his gig at The Forum. Opportunities like this don't come along every day... so as I sat and watched the band and their crew do their thing, I took a good look around at the giant, empty shell of a venue (they sure do transform when the lights go down).
As the lights whirred about the stage and vocals buzzed through the air, the place came to life. For anyone seeing Jamie T next week, you're in for a treat.
But, I wasn't there to see Mr T... I had foreigners on my mind. New Yorkers to be precise. The New York Howl are the band supporting his tour and a talented bunch they are too. It took awhile to locate them in the rabbit warren that is 'backstage' but once we'd settled, swapped compliments about hats and boots and given up trying to locate drummer Adam (I told you it was a rabbit warren), Andrew (guitar, vocals), Stefan (baritone sax) and Brer (guitar, keys, vocals) sat down for a chat.
The guys not only weave musical magic, they're also great to chat to. Despite a tight schedule and a fast-approaching sound check, we squeezed in a good dose of natter. Check out the video to hear about the New York music scene, touring, how they met Jamie T and the English dress sense.
