Loney, Dear
Loney, Noir
Parlophone/Regal/EMI
Review by Peter Coulston
This band hails from Sweden and the album has been available since April this year. Their sound is a bit Beach Boys but with rather more fragile vocals. The band consists of Ola Hultgren on drums, Malin Stahlberg on tamboutine and vocals, Samuel Starck on keys, David Lindvall on bass, Oscar Svenningsson on guitar and supersub bass, Oskar Schonning on bass and Erika Alexandersson on vocals and keys, and they certainly produce some very melodic and pleasant work. Most of the songs are quite light. I particularly liked I Am The Odd One and I Could Say (no one can win here) is the closest to a ballad on the album. Saturday Waits is the single out next month and has lots of acoustic charm, fine harmonies and good use of assorted instruments. Very easy to listen to and recommended if you like this kind of laid back, melodic pop. They will be in the UK next month, opening for Joan as Police Woman at the Shepherds Bush Empire on July 11 and playing The Fly on New Oxford Street on the 12th. The album is available in some record stores and on MySpace.
