SEEED : Next : Four Records
Review by Peter Coulston
Seeed are an eleven piece hip hop/reggae/rock ensemble who are currently one of Germanys finest exports. With three gold albums and headline spots in major European festivals including Glastonbury, this band certainly has form. Founded in 1998 in Berlin, they use an assortment of traditional instruments and collaborate with the likes of Gnarls Barkleys Cee-lo Green, Tanya Stephens, Kano and French hip hop collective, Saian Supa Crew.
This is a very enjoyable album, moving between funky, rap based hip hop and reggae at random, with the odd bit of blues, soul and African thrown in for good measure. Much of the material is very similar and, with twenty tracks on the album, there is no way that I am dissecting each one. My particular favourites were Waterpumpee, Double Soul with Tanya Stephens and Papa Noah. This is a great album to listen to and to dance to and I would certainly love to see these guys live.
