The Bird and The Bee
The Bird and The Bee
Blue Note/EMI
Review by Peter Coulston
A lot of this album has a gentle, jazz feel to it, which is not surprising given that Blue Note was originally a pure jazz label. The bird and the bee are Inara George on vocals and Greg Kurstin playing nearly all the instruments and producing. Im a Broken Heart is a good, commercial ballad with nice use of horns (played by David Ralicke), as is the excellent, keyboard led Sparks (without the horns). La La La is simple, Sixties and great and Because has some nice keyboard also. My Fair Lady is the closest they get to dark, introducing a suggestion of the blues.
This album certainly needs more than one listen, as there is so much going on with these two talented people. I know that I am going to play it over and over again. It should be available in some stores and certainly can be accessed on MySpace. As far as I am aware, there are no UK dates planned, but they do tour with a band in the US and hopefully will find their way here sometime. In the meantime, check them out.
