In store Performance -Rough Trade

The brightly lit Rough Trade store echoed that of a classroom. It was stuffed with Cajun Dance Party balloons, badges and a group of skinny jean clad teenagers with lego haircuts I was hoping I would get a party bag on the way out. Having only heard their previous single The Next Untouchable I was not sure what I was in for - especially when somebody whispered behind me the guitarist has the same jeans as my sister.
I know the ones he means the electric blue ones from Top Shop, but, this didnt stop Cajun Dance Party from impressing me. With a lead singer that is a Johnny Borrell type in the making (a far less arrogant one though) and a band bursting with danceable twangy chords complete with a thudding set of drums Cajun Dance Party are set to be huge.
As the band took to the stage and the classroom lights were dimmed, CDP threw them selves into rock mode and began to jam their way through the set. They needed no time to warm up and remained consistently enthusiastic throughout. CDP are an immediately likeable and down to earth band who chatted with the audience in between songs creating an intimate relationship between band and audience.
As CDP blasted there way through their previous single The Next Untouchable (an incredibly catchy track that will have you blindly humming cant walk away for the next few days) balloons were being batted from band to crowd, spraying Rough Trade with balls of colour. The magnetic energy coming from CDP was nearly ruined as lead singer Danny Blumberg suddenly bolted from the stage half way through a song and disappeared into the throng of bopping CDP fans. Disappointed that Blumberg had just pulled a stroppy and pointless teenage stunt by stalking off the stage, I immediately lost interest and could feel a scathing review coming on. Blumberg, however, had merely jumped off the stage to get a balloon. He bounced back to the front and continued to sing whilst tossing it about, absolving me from any patronizing thoughts I had immersed myself in only seconds earlier.
CDP were refreshing, charming and talented, a band whose musical capabilities were certainly not reflected in their age.
