Being a teenager wasnt quite like Skins portrayed it to be, was it? Obviously, there were the parties that went very wrong, heart wrenching angst and plenty of un-requited love - but sleeping with the teacher was mostly unheard of.
Skins is rooted in reality but transcends to something slightly more glamorous and exciting Thank God, I dont want to be re-living my dragging teenage years in the near future.
At least Skins isnt as disengaged as Dawsons Creek was and there were far less Oh, define me moments to deal with. Skins is far more grimy and raw than your typical American teenage show and comes hand in hand with an incredible soundtrack. Skins The Soundtrack is laced with a killer array of songs that easily surpasses the sophistication of the programme.
A thumping remix of Standing In The Way Of Control is second on the album transporting you from your everyday drudgery and into the fast and feisty world of Beth Ditto. This is followed by Bloc Party and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, leading to the King of all anthems Adam & The Ant's 'Prince Charming.'
The middle of the album is like the middle of a party when some body digs out their i-pod and unleashes a torrent of beat heavy tracks such as DJ Shadow, Tricky and Roots Manuva. The soundtrack winds down nicely as any good party will and leaves you with far less of that morning after feeling would.
The soundtrack to Skins is out on Sept 10th.
