Pet Shop Boyz
'Party Like a Rockstar
The single, having already notched up some considerable airtime in America, along with a laudable bill-board chart position, Party Like a Rockstar seems implacably set to leave its mark on the musical consciousness of our nation. Just how indelible this popular laceration is set to be remains the enigma of the equation.
Im taking something of a non-sensical tact here, as the conclusion foregone has to be that this record will sell. But is it any good? Are we to suspect the seismic fallout of Beyonces Crazy in Love?
Not a chance. Not a bloody chance Id sooner buy a clown car with a very dubious service history than cop out three quid for this. Admittedly, the single attempts to fuse dubiously select elements of rock and hip hop a dynamic that potentially could have given us something original. (This is a lie the marriage between the two genres is growing staler with every incarnation) But in doing this, the Shop Boyz have very much set out their stall; this records here to sell, not to titillate the senses.
Essentially, the songs a baleful, monotonous, wretched and pernicious piece of toss oh, and the hook t-t-t-totally dude! will resonate forever, duely reminding you of the madness experienced by, errr, Roger Daltery? A stuttering teen anthem it isnt. A terribly odious ring-tone it is.
The Boyz should certainly consider their musical acumen before they purport to party like rockstars. Sadly, this is set to be yet another boon for those boys in the music industry.
