ALBUM REVIEW: Stevie Wonder

stevie.JPGStevie Wonder
Number Ones

Review by Gabriel Rolph

You know what? This review is going to be very biased, because to me, Stevie Wonder is a genius. And not just a genius within Soul, Motown or RnB, Stevie is a musical genius and one of the (few) living legends still able to put emotions and thoughts down on paper and do his thing live.

From Little Stevie, through the classic self-produced seventies albums, through to the insanely catchy pop of the eighties and now the new material, Stevie has transcended eras and always maintained career credibility. Number Ones takes in all these moments and gives us some real choice nuggets to get stuck into. The tracks from his elf-produced period for example; Superstition, Higher Ground and Living For The City, all-winners and songs that re-defined who Stevie was and where he was.

This is one of those essential pieces of any record collection. Modern day masterpieces from one of the most gifted song-writers and performers out there… and you better believe he’s still going strong, after a series of sell-out US dates at the tail end of the summer. It won’t be long before he’s back on this side of the Atlantic either and when he does get here, be sure to check out the master blaster live!
