David Jordan
Place In My Heart
Review by Natalie Aquilina
David Jordan is most definitely an interesting character, his direction grips you in an instant although youre not sure exactly why. Fiercely independent, Jordan struck out on his own aged 16 obsessed with song writing, and his glow and energy for song can be appreciated instantly. The leading single on his new album Place In My Heart is all of these things that he is, instantly interesting, instantly energetic but it holds a few too many paradoxes for me to be certain of it. It is the so so hand movement, not because the song lacks energy or truth, it has these elements which makes me want to really enjoy it but the production and melody feel as if the song is treading a thin line between being extrovertly cool or slipping into boy band chic. We could imagine for instance a boppy dance routine conducted with the chorus, with a couple of slow and meaningful lunges at the slower parts towards the end. That is not to say that the mans voice is not inviting or unique, because it is. David Jordan has a real buzz surrounding him, the kind that makes him very watchable, the kind that makes us the public curious to see where this new star will go in his already set career. It is interesting, he is charismatic, his noticeable influences from Prince and Lenny Kravitz transfer easily, but for me its not quite there.
David Jordan released his debut single 'Place in My Heart' on October 22nd and his album 'Set the Mood' on October 29th
