Review by Katie Spain

When I arrive home at 8.30am after a night out, I decide to turn on Scissor Sisters' new DVD. I am running on zero hours sleep and I'm spilling glitter on the duvet but surely this'll do me good.

From word go, it's obvious that I'm not in a state for 'happy go lucky' American accents and visions of dry humping on stage. I do, however, adore Scissor Sisters and all their sequined glory, so if anything’s going to perk me up, it's them. It's a mammoth job but I'm sure they're up to the task.

Before I launch into an all singing, all dancing review, it's important to note that you either love The Scissor Sisters or you hate them. There's not much room for in-betweens. It's also important to note that I love them. Bias is highly likely. After three live experiences with the camp crooners from the States, I'm still hooked. I could have the Sisters for breakfast, lunch and tea and still come out of the experience wanting more. Nothing but sleep deprivation could bring my enthusiasm down. It's a DVD I'm sure I'll love but can it compete with the live experience?

From the outset this is a trip down memory lane. I was there for the band's 2007 London O2 Arena gig but although I squint hard, I can't spot myself amongst the 20,000 screaming fans. If you too, were in the crowd, you'll spot things you didn't notice in the massive West London dome. Please welcome, Jake Shear's butt cheeks, Ana Matronic’s seductive facial expressions and a stage shaped like scissors. Nope, until now I didn't notice such impressive details. The little band members on screen cavort, tease and belt their way through a set that blew me away then, and through the joys of digital technology, blow me away now. It's 90 minutes of live action - you don't get that on ‘Top Of The Pops’.

The joy of DVDs is the remote control. Don't like that scene, skip to the next. Love that scene where Jake bares his pink cheeks to the world; play it again. The sixty minute documentary showcases some interesting backstage shenanigans and travel adventures. Look out for the snow scenes and pity the stuffed bear that meets an icy fate. In amongst the fun moments that most of us mere mortals miss, there's a sprinkling of behind-the-scenes footage. As the band tour from the land 'down under' through to the States, we even get a glimpse of a cameo in the American daytime soap opera Passions.

Video shoots also feature strongly - Japanese artist Nagi Noda assisted in the process for 'She’s My Man'. It's mind bending stuff. If you saw the opening for the Brits you'll know what I mean. But in amongst the tour gems, there are a few sore points. Let me explain...

The erratic shots, jumpy scenes and annoying vocals in the 'I Don't Feel Like Dancing' montage are enough to send a fragile head into migraine mode. I love you guys but if we wanted to see a collage of YouTube videos, wannabe rock star fans and we'd go online and search them ourselves. People want to see YOU - the stars behind the sequinned frocks and skin-tight lycra.

All gripes aside, this DVD packs more of a punch than most. It's what The Scissor Sisters do best - see them live and you'll grasp the concept completely. The extras are plentiful - an intimate acoustic gig filmed for GCap and all 4 music videos from Ta-Dah. Random interviews with talk show hosts camper than they are... it’s all there.

This little silver disk shows their world in all its surreal glory; they're friends with Kylie for Pete's sake. After a night of cavorting in sparkly high heels, I certainly 'Don't Feel Like Dancing' and for the first time ever, I've experienced the song's overkill. I will however, watch this DVD over and over again. Next time, I'll sleep beforehand and dance while I watch. After all, there's enough footage there to please even the greediest of glamour pusses. Pass the remote, there's some scene skipping to do.

This is a funky Christmas stocking filler. Ask and Santa will surely deliver; he wears a sequinned g-string under his red suit you know...
