Remi Nicole will be supporting Amy Winehouse this November. What a gig that is going to be! A night packed full of female fervour, some admirable attitude and a set of tasty tunes. Having previously supported Amy early on this year, Remi was picked by Amy to support her once again on this highly anticipated UK tour from the award winning singer.
Remi Nicole doesnt like to be compared to fellow female artists. She wants to be recognized for her own unique sound and original indie vibe that has a fresh twist. Its a shame that when ever any female artist comes along, they seemed to be boxed in with a handful of certain other female artists. Things need to change and hopefully Remi Nicole is going to set the record straight.
Not only is she ready to tour with Amy Winehouse, she is also all set to release her killer single Rock 'N' Roll. As an out-of-the-box sing-along indie pop anthem, Rock 'N' Roll was penned after she was labeled strange by her cousins for loving music other than R&B and Hip Hop and decided to answer back in typical Remi style - in the form of a toe-tapping piece of Indie-pop gold.
Her lyrical style is observational, a little tongue-in-cheek, coupled with a knack for capturing sparkling indie-pop hooks all of her own. Rock 'N' Roll is an advertisement to how Remis independent attitude carries her through life. She fell for the charms of Oasis after being introduced to them by a holiday romance in Portugal at age thirteen, and had to keep her love of boys in bands to herself for years. Remi's music now confronts the people who assume that as a young black girl, she makes R'n'B. "Everyone who sees me says 'do you sing R'n'B?' It just shows that there arent enough people out there who are breaking down barriers.
Remis debut album My Conscience & I (released December 3rd) is a fantastic collection of sharply astute vignettes of young life and warm, wryly amusing songs about her love of bands, skateboarding, football and getting on with her ex-boyfriends mum, the sum of twenty four years as a young mixed-race indie tomboy. All this will be delivered with the confidence and swagger of a female Liam Gallagher but refreshingly free of arrogance and anger.
