Enrique Iglesias
Wembley Arena
Friday 9th November
Review by Natalie Aquilina
Swoon! Ok maybe I need a hero, but who doesnt. Now this is a complete turn around for me, I have for as long as forever has been in creation, not been a fan of the young and adored Enrique. Because, well Im a little snobbish when it comes to music and I simply presumed that his own brand of love, love, love songs didnt come from anywhere real, that the smouldering was turned on and off as quickly as a Spice Girls single. I couldnt sense a human life story behind the songs and the persona.
Well I was wrong. Im big enough to admit that, and hopefully my gracious standing down of opinion will open you strong minded people up to change. Im standing in Wembley Arena reliving all my childhood screams, my first loves and seeing a wide mix of people before me. The girls, the older girls, the couples and the boys. I was prepared for the moment that was coming; I thought it would be enjoyable enough. You know a mellow kind of enjoyable, the swaying, the mild smile, the wondering when its over
But really, Im telling you people, the opening chords made their entrance and struck a chord with me. Like a sexy stranger in a hot fiery club he entered, opening to a spectacular of lights and sexual freedom. I dont know what it is exactly that strikes you, is it the accent, the hype for me no. The man oozes sex, thats it. In a very free and honest way, you can feel what his energy is trying to give. For me, that is the kind of honesty I like in an artist. It felt like Enrique the man was on stage without the preconceptions of old.
The first song was Ring My Bells from his second album Insomniac released in June. It is a bit of a move on for Enrique, its a stronger beat than hes used to and pulled me into what he could be. It stopped my judgement immediately; he truly is a raw honest persona. We are then graced with the bracing salsa beat of Love to See You Cry, a favourite staple in the artists workbook. This turned into the winter warmer that is Bailamos even I liked that one in my un-Enrique days, its classic Spanish good!
Dont Turn Off The Lights, a much lighter and rockier ditty was not the Delilah to Samsons intense sexiness. I cant describe it really, the air was thick with the decadence of sexual energy, it freed the arena, everyone turning to their significant others or friends they were with because the vibe brought everyone closer together, it was more than sex, it was love. Rhythm Divine turned the London arena into an open-air European venue, you could smell the hot air, feel the salsa rhythm and enjoy the freedom. The classic Could I Have This Kiss Forever, made the whole room swoon, hold me!
Then came a breather where Enrique turned to us the audience. He spoke openly, and it was clear ladies and germs that he had personality. He told us about his journey and we respected him for that. He said that the last year had been a rough road, but looking out at the audience he said made him think what has he been complaining about. And it didnt feel like a cheesy throw to the audience, to please our waiting ears. You could see that the man truly respected what he has, he truly loves and needs to make music to cure him of what ails him and he loves the fact that people are responding to it. He brought a couple onto the stage and we got to see what I think was the real Enrique interact. The man swears like a trooper but in the most life loving and charming way. He and his two guests enjoyed many a shot of vodka, in his words, F**k it, Im gonna get drunk. But he was never brash, it was witnessing a man who embraced his life and was very willing to enjoy it. He mentioned the subjects of women and love, the two things it seems that drive him. Its f**ked up, its great for like 5 days, then it gets really bad and then it gets good again, is Enriques definition of what happens when one finds ones self in love. It felt like we were having a bit of a chat, that he was letting us in. He even dared to say that he thinks some of the songs he writes about love are a bit s**t, but told us he writes about love when he feels alone, writing is what he does to make him feel better, which made me really like him in an instant.
He continued with the open door policy and did a couple of songs that narrated a bit of his story. He sang a song in Spanish to the couple on stage and then gave us his rendition of Knockin on Heaven's Door, which he said he learnt English to, which is why, Its a bit s**t. Everyones ass got up to Not in Love, and it really just felt like a go on, enjoy life concert. He really got into the groove with Tired of Being Sorry, it felt like a seamless gig. The screen lit up and showed a computerised game of ping pong, a Kournikova reference? No - its the Ping Pong song so called for its beat, actually entitled Do You Know. The big finale came with the classic arena commodity that is glitter paper being blasted fast and high, it did actually look quite spectacular, they covered him and the stage and it looked very indulgent and opulent in a very understated way, which is pretty much an overview of the whole gig.
He came back for the traditional three songs reprise which began with the RnB influenced Push and as expected and longed for by the many, he sang Hero to one lucky lady in the front row. He ended the whole orgy with Escape, which was exactly the right note to end on. The line up was precisely matched with every second that passed by, the intensity built at exactly the right moments and shifted when it needed to.
A very good night was had by all, the girlies, the couples and the boys. And me, I feel a little energised by the experience and feel like I just want to go and live a life of hot and sweaty freedom in South America for a couple years with the love of my life and just enjoy every second and surrounding Im in. I vow never to judge too quickly and broadly again well maybe thats just the glitter talking.

i absolutely agree with everything that has been said - i go to quite a few concerts and enriques concert was so energising and a truly refreshing experience. he was honest, pushed boundaries and interacted with the audience in a way i have never experienced. i left feeling like i had a true idea of who he really is and was hungry to know more. the atmosphere was so sexually charged, it was overpowering - i just wanted to dance and sing and laugh and cry all at once and all around me it looked like everyone else was feeling the same kind of thing. as a 'fan' i have waited too long for this concert and cannot wait for the next.

I was there Friday, and was totally blown away by Enrique. Have been to a lot of concerts and this one beat them all. His singing - dancing - and especially his raw sex appeal made for a great nite. Never seen him before and cant wait to see him again. Hope he comes back to UK very soon.

We booked tix last minute on Friday and so glad we did - had a great view in line with the end of the stage. I usually go to edgier bands than this - Morrissey, Stereophonics, who all have an axe to grind. This was a breath of fresh air. What a sexy guy! Have now bought last two CDs and will definitely go again next time round. Have told others about it and surprised that so many like him but never been to a concert - til now. I hope a DVD of Wembley is released too. Have a 4 minute vid on my phone of "Do you Know" to keep me going for a while! This was a great evening and I only found out about it by chance that week! More publicity next time round please!

My mum threw a red heart cushion to enrique during the show,it had a little picture in it. The heart luckily landed right on the corner of the extended stage.
Im sure he saw it but did not pick it, up.
My mum hopes he got it somehow though :)
The show was absolutely amazing, if i could go back to any memory, it would be that!
Lucky Couple that got to have a civilised chat and vodka shots.very VERY lucky lady in the front row who had hero sung to her, And pic of down his trousers, Cheeky Boy That Enrique is hey! xx

Wembley Friday night was breathtaking. When Enrique first came on stage the atmosphere was electric. Ring my Bell was a great way to start the evening and it only got better and better. Fabulous the way he interacted with the audience to such a degree that you kind of felt you'd know him all your life and was having an intimate chat with him.His energy was amazing, making sure he covered all sides of the arena. Luckily I was near the end of the catwalk and so had a fabulous view. Great night, great music, great bod!! Next day I felt so flat because it was over so I've booked tickets for Birmingham on 16.11.07.Can't wait to enjoy the Enrique experience again.

Sarah Again..
Now a little about what i thought of the concert. The atmosphere filled with excitement and as his breathtaking entrance took place the hole room roared out with screams and 'i love you's'.
I have never been a great fan of enrique; but since i saw him live i cant seem to get enough of his music!
I had a great view, right near the corner of the stage, When he came to the end he looked at me, and ohh my god my mouth was wide open HAHA!
That was my first concert, and i thoroughly enjoyed it. What a beaut he is. I kept my mouth shut from screaming most of the time as i was being swept away by his singing, the songs he writes and the way he sings them .
Dont we all wish we got called up on stage!
Overall, An amazing concert! I hope he comes back soon for more :) xx

I was there on Fri, i also went to Manchester the night before and had the pleasure of meeting him backstage! I can tell you he is a sweetheart, so kind, down to earth and funny! I got a kiss off him and he smelt so good and his stubble was nice too! Now back to the concert, which was just amazing! I've been a fan of him for 8 years and i've waited 5 yrs to see him in concert, it was well worth the wait. I've never danced and sang so much in my life. I enjoyed it so much i'm off to B'gham on fri,i shouldn't really but i just can't get enough of him lol! I just love everything about him, his voice, his music, his personality, the fact he has a great sense of humour and he doesn't take himself too seriously and of course his drop dead gorgeous looks don't do any harm. His mum was in the audience at Wembley and she was lovely, she smiled when she realised some of us recognised her and on the way out she thanked us for our support, i bet she's so proud. Well i can't wait until friday and i hope he doesn't leave it too long next time! I love you Enrique, don't be a stranger! xxxx

Manchester Thurs. night Absolutely brilliant, i was in ectasy the sexiest man i have ever seen on stage, he just oozes sex appeal, when he lay down on top of the backing singer and then the lights went out, that as amaazing.
Lots of people asked me what was his singing like live, absolutely brilliant was my reply. My only regret was that i was sitting so far away from the stage in fact right in front of Critiano Ronaldo . Please Enrique come back soon this time i need to be close to the stage

I was at the cardiff concert last night. Absolutely outstanding i havnt stopped talking about it yet my family and friends have had enough so ive logged on here lol. What a sexy guy. I have been to a lot of concerts but i have never seen anything like it in my life. The lights were amazing and the ticker tape coming out the stage at the end was fabulous. I have always liked enrique and his music but now i love him. He is so in awe of his audience and makes alot of eye contact. He is so respectful, you could see he was having the time of his life. During the show he had a chill out moment with a couple from the audience, even had sofas on stage, drinking vodka shots wow, i was so jealous. He even escorted them off the stage himself. I took my husband along with me and he is totally converted now. I cant wait till next time cos im gonna get front row seats lol.

ahh what can I say.... I was asked to go to Wembley with my good friend, I'd had a bad week and was really tired and wasnt really in the mood for a concert, but I went as I didnt want to let my friend down. Anyway i wasnt a big fan, the song that stuck out I knew was Hero..... Anyway after waiting for a good half an hour for him to come on stage, he finally arrived... OMG I was totally blown away, all of sudden I had forgotten I had a banging headache and feeling really tired, My feet were tapping and my hips were swinging.... Half way thru I was thinking God I could have missed out on this one I am so lucky... lol So I am now totally in love with Enrique I have all his CD's lol and listen to them all day and every day. Keep dreaming of meeting him one day, wish I was the lucky girl that was picked to go up on stange.
He's oozes Sex and just totally brilliant. Adórele Enrique xxxx

Well what can i say that hasn't already been said??? I went to the wembley show on the 9th november also and i can truly say that it was the best night of my life!! My husband bought me my ticket for my 29th birthday as an early present as its not till the 24th....it was the best present he could have given me and no present that i get in the future will ever beat this one!!!! Enrique was fantastic, i just wish that i was at the front instead of the middle which is where i was. I lost my voice for 2 days after because of all the screaming, im sure he could hear me above everyone else: ). I will treasure that night forever and cherish the memorabilia i bought.....i spent loads!!! I keep looking at the photo's me and my friend took of Enrique and find it hard to believe i was actually there. I can't wait for the next concert and his number 1 fan "ME" will definately be front row!!! I LOVE YOU Enrique x x x

Surprised!!!!!!!!!!
I have been pondering about writing this note since the Manchester gig on the 8th to which I bought tickets for myself the good lady wife and are two kids aged 10 & 11, the lad is well into Enrique so I thought why not, I wasn't sure about this note because I'm actually into Rock/Metal music and was at the MEN the next night also to watch a Rock gig (Heaven & Hell) with my mates and have been going to Rock/Metal gigs since 1982 you name em and I've seen em (trust me), but credit where credits due I can safely say that we all really enjoyed the whole gig, support act the lot, I thought that Enrique and his band were bloody great!! (I can't belive I just said that), I even wanted to go to Birmingham on the 16th to watch it all again ( I can't belive I wanted to do that either) but the wife put her foot down!!!!, the guy is a top show man and singer who knows how to work the crowd, Enrique I take my hat off to you.
P.S. I must be getting soft in my old age!!!!!!!!!

I had the greatest of pleaseurein attending the concert on 9TH NOV 2007, my daughter won the tickets on Capital Radio the day before the concert. When she told me i ran round the house not knowing what to do it was my all time dream to meet this sexy man, the great thing about all of this is that me and my daughter had front row seats and were 2 of the lucky 12 to meet him backstage afterwarrds. All i can say is the photo i had taken with him is in pride of place in my house and the screen saver on my computer so i can see him all the time. Meeting him backstage was an experience i will never forget i melted at the touch of his arm round my shoulder and could hardly speak. He is the sexiest man on earth and hope the dvd comes out i was going mad in the front row and what to see me making a fool of myself. I LOVE ENRIQUE COME BACK SOON.
