Got a question for Lee Mead?

leemead.jpgWe may all know him for his rise to J-J-J-Joseph stardom but Lee Mead isn't about to rest easy in his technicolor dreamcoat. Why settle for the world of theatre when you can be a solo artist as well?

Yes, it has just been announced that Lee Mead has signed to a long-term record deal.
The Any Dream Will Do winner is currently putting the finishing touches to his self titled debut album ‘Lee Mead’. Original ain’t it? Personally, we think it'll be a success based on his hairstyle alone...

The album is due for release on November 19th. The first single will follow on December 3rd. The tune, ‘Gonna Make You A Star’ was originally a number one hit in 1974 (for David Essex).

To celebrate, we'll interview the talented sod next week. You have our word that it won't focus completely on hair issues like the diabolical interview in Heat Magazine (give the guy a break guys... it's all about the MUSIC). We can't promise we won't ask about his Rear Of The Year award but we will endeavour to ask some questions sent in by you lot... the fans.

If you have a burning question for the Mead meister, post it in the comments section and we'll get the best ones answered. We'll also get something a little crazy signed. One of you will win it. Be creative... may the best questions win!

Get your Lee Mead in Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat tickets here.

Keep your eye on Seatwave - we'll let you know as soon as Lee Mead tours!

Have you seen Lee Mead in Joseph? We want your reviews and comments. Post them here and you might just get yours published on the main Seatwave site!

Question for Lee Mead: If you could only wear one item of clothing for the rest of your life, would it be the Loincloth or the Technicolour Coat?

Dear Lee, A huge congradulations on all your success so far & all the best with the CD & single; they'll be smashes if we Lovelees have anything to say about it! My question is: I've read that you were surpirsed at some of the songs you were asked to sing on 'Any Dream Will Do'. Which song surprised you the most and why? Thanks in advance, Fi x

Can't wait for the album. How did you go about choosing the songs for the album and why did you decide not to include any Musical Theatre songs?

How much of a difference does recording an album with a live band make to the whole recording process? Does it take longer/shorter? Is there extra pressure to get it right first time?! Is there an added buzz?

Congratulations on the new album Lee, what I've heard so far is fantastic! I am really looking forward to future perhaps more Musical Theater albums but glad that this one will perhaps allow people to see a more poppy side of you! Who would you say was you biggest non MT musical influences?

I love the single, and the album's looking great, and the show was fantastic!!! I can't think of an interesting question, so it'll be: what's the weirdest thing you've received from a fan?

I am counting down the days till the release of the album - I can't wait!! My question is: If you could sing a duet with any one person(apart from Josh Groban) who would it be and what would you sing?

Do the songs on the album reflect music you would listen to yourself?

Which one song do you wish you'd been able to sing on Any Dream Will Do, and were there any songs that any of the other Josephs sang which you would have liked to?

Hi Lee! Can't wait to hear your album. Who are your main musical influences and would you like to have a go at writing songs yourself one day? xxx

Hi Lee - congrats on the new album! My question is - I think you have a great 'look' for the role of Joseph (dark curly hair, dark eyes, great bone structure). What I'd like to know is - where do your exotic looks come from?

Hi Lee which direction would you like future albums to go in, musical theatre, pop or even big band?

I don't think you reallise how amazing you truly are and just how much pleasure you give to us your fans and we were really concerned when you hurt your foot. What exactly happened, and are you O.K now?

Hi Lee. Many congratulations on your forthcoming Album and Single. I'm sure they'll do brilliantly. Also, huge congratulations on Joseph, it's a fantastic show! Ok, so to my question. You have a very busy schedule performing 8 shows a week, plus any other commitments you have to fulfil during the week. What do you do to relax on your day off?

Huge congrats on your Joseph success, Lee (as if we ever doubted you!!). After your stage success, I should love to see you on the silver screen. What would be your Dream role? Personally I can see you as Mr Darcy in 'Pride and Prejudice' (in the wet, white shirt of course!).

Hi Lee, congrats on all your success so far, and all that is yet to come. I'm greedy I have two questions. 1.Do you read the forums at all, or does anyone else fill you in on their content? 2.There have been many fanfics about you. If were able to choose, how would you like yourself to be portrayed and in which kind of scenario?

Hi Lee, am so excited about the release of your debut album, and from what I've heard so far it's going to be fabulous! My question is, apart from 'Gonna Make You A Star', which one song from the album would you love to release as a single?

Hi Lee, Congratulations on all your well deserved success so far - and lots of Loppy love and best wishes for the future. So, you went in to audition for an MT show and they threw a pop career at you? Not bad! I'm amazed at all the work you've put in on both jobs. It really shines through. My question: What's been the biggest suprise to come out of winning Any Dream Will Do and have you had a chance to catch up with yourself yet?
Posted on November 8, 2007 4:25 PM

Hard to think of anything not hair-related but here's a question! Was the 'Lee' we were shown on Any Dream Will Do very different from the real Lee? If so, what are the main differences? Looking forward to the album.

Hi there Lee. What is the biggest change you have had to make to your life since you have been thrown into the technicoloured limelight and is there anything about it all that you dislike or that irritates you (even just a little)?

Not sure if you are aware of this Lee, but your fans have spent hours of their time watching the Geri Halliwell, It's Raining Men video over and over again to try and spot you and it has been discussed at great lengths on the fan forums. Please, please can you put us all out of our misery and tell us which of the dancers is you?

Greetings .. Life must have been crazy for the last many months. Hope it is a little more relaxed now when not having to be in the studio all day as well! But since all things do change with different circumstances, how have your aspirations and hopes for the future been affected by actual experience and by changes in opportunity? And how has the experience actually compared to expectation?

Hi Lee ! I am looking forward to your album release. It will be a great day for us Loppies. The question is a non-musical one : Who would be your 8 favourite dinner guests ( historical persons included) and what would you serve?

Congratulations on a great show!! You have many fans, via the internet, that live abroad and have no chance of seeing Joseph - is there going to be a dvd of the show? And as a Southend boy winkles or jellied eels for tea?

Hi.. Is your guitar playing actually good enough to accompany yourself? Because I could see that being quite interesting! It certainly hasn't been done for a long time. Would you/could you do that? Would you like to do that? And what else, apart from as on album, would you particularly like to sing that way?

Hi Lee - can I just thank you for making some many ladies of all ages, so very, very happy. Fantastic show which has rekindled my interest in the theatre. Hi Lee, well done on the show and the forthcoming album which looks great. There has been a lot of discussion about who might take over as Joseph when you leave the show. Who would you like to see follow you in the role and why?

Have noticed comment above re to "Keep an eye on Seatwave - We'll let you know as soon as Lee Mead tours". So presumably that is no longer just a possibility for the future but intent! Has timing been penciled in already, how has that affected decisions re Joseph (noticed recent Heat confirmation of year contract when previously presumed to be extending), and has anything been problematic re RUG?

Hi Lee, I have curly hair too and other peoples obsession with it can be a bit strange can't it! You have a fantastic and unique voice - can't wait for the album! My question - Is there a song that really inspires you when you listen to it?

Hello Lee, I loved all your performances on ADWD, but in the final you were sensational!!! I have only seen Joseph once, you were brilliant and am now looking forward to going again and again. I would love to see you play Ewan McGregor's part of the Poet in a West End production of the film Moulin Rouge and also Billy Bigelow in Carousel...would you like to play these parts and if so who would you choose as a leading lady? I am also burning to know what other leading roles you have been offered...don't fob us off Lee we Lovelees NEED to know! I would also like to know if you would like to share my duvet? mmm.. haven't mentioned to my husband that I was going to ask you that so can you whisper the reply please!? Thanks Lee.... PS. love the clips of the album..looking forward to 19/11!

Many congratulations Lee on your fantastic achievements so far and the forthcoming single and album. What I have heard so far is amazing and I am sure it will be a big success. I feel I should ask something deep like 'Nature vs nurture - discuss' but instead will stick with somthing along the lines of, how important are your friends and family to you and is it thanks to them that you have stayed so grounded?

Hi Lee Christmas is getting closer. What was the best thing you ever found in your stocking on Christmas morning? What is on you wish list to Santa this year?

Hi Lee, I would just like to say thank you so much for the amazing performance you gave when I went to see Joseph. You were wonderful! You obviously love music but who were your musical influences when you were growing up and is there anyones footsteps you would like to follow in now you're a star? Can't wait for the 19th... it sounds like an excellent album and you should be very proud!

Hi Lee, congrats on Joseph. I LOVED it!! You are the King of the West End as far as I'm concerned! Right, the all important question: If you were granted 3 wishes, what would you wish for?

What influenced you to choose the particular songs you decided on for your album and do you think you have acheived a balance between what your audience would appreciate hearing you sing and what you really wanted to sing? (great choices they were too!!)

Hi Lee. My question is: if you could ask one question of one famous person, living or deceased, who would it be and what would be the question?

Hi Lee. The people definitely chose the best Joseph!you have said before you got the acting bug when a teacher encouraged you to go for a part in a school production of 'Grease'.Do you think he/she saw the MT potential back then that you or your family hadn't seen?

Hi Lee, Well done with the show & the forthcoming Album and Single. Ok, here's my question. I was blessed with a ridiculous middle name at birth, (would have preferred being given LoveLee as a middle name but there ya go). Do you have an embarrassing middle name if you have one? Have fun on the 19th, HMV won't know what's hit em!!

Lee, as we all know the voting figures for any reality TV show are never released so the public never know what percentage of votes went to the winner. You mentioned in one of the shows, that support for you had grown each week, was that because you kept in touch with the fansites/forums or were you told the voting percentage of each contestant each week.
Posted on November 9, 2007 7:03 AM

OK so all the sensible questions about your future career have been asked so back to basics. What is your favourite alcoholic tipple? Which football team do you support? Best of luck with the album and single. A x.

What a great talent you are Lee! I enjoyed ADWD immensely, both my husband and I thought Joseph was fantastic and I know the album will be an enormous success. My question is: I know you have commented that your car is old and only worth about £400, but that it serves its purpose. What would you like to drive for everyday use? (Realistically that is - I saw your F1 pictures!!!). I could see you in an Audi TT

Lee, watching your Gonna Make You A Star video on YouTube has helped us while away the time until your album is released! Can you put us out of our misery and tell us which shots in the video are actually of your "double" as this has been the subject of great debate! PS If you do go on tour after Joseph, please don't forget your fans north of the border and remember to include a Scottish date or two!!

Hi Lee- good luck with your new album-not that you will need it-saw your performance as Joseph in August-absolutely unforgettable. My question is: If you could meet anybody in the world either famous or not famous who would it be and why Thanks for your time xx

Dear Lee, I've ordered the album and love the video. Thank you for all the pleasure your performances have already given me - on tv and twice in Joseph. I have never followed anyone's career so closely before. Do you have any worries about the concentration on your physical appearance when you are so much more than that?
Posted on November 9, 2007 11:25 AM

Having seen your video for Gonna Make You A Star (just a few times!) if you could put your double on stage at the Adelphi for one night in your place, where would you go, what would you do and with who? And as an East Anglian boy PLEASE include a date on your tour in this part of the country!! Keep up the good work Lee, you are making a lot of people very happy

Well Lee, you must know that there are a lot of us who think you are extremely talented and have been following your every move! None more so that me, who has dedicated a fansite to you the 'Lee Mead Appreciation Society' to be exact! So my question would be; 'How do fan sites like the one that I have developed make you feel?' and also 'Since starring in Joseph, what unique qualities do you think you have bought to the role?' Thank you! And really looking forward to meeting you on 24th November! Donna X

When I saw Joseph (fabulous show by the way!!) I was struck by how much fun all the cast seem to be having, and how gently the brothers are treating you while you recover from your sprained ankle. I wondered how intimidating it was to meet the cast for the first time, not knowing if they'd voted for you or one of the other guys on ADWD? (I'm sure they did all vote for you!! ) Oh, and how well do you all get on now - honest truth please!!

I thought the Heat interview where the curls kept coming up was a pastiche of Bridget Jones Diary where she interviews Colin Firth as himself and amusingly keeps referring to his famous wet shirt scene. My question is, Lee, you got wonderful reviews as Pharoah in the touring production of Joseph and obviously must have studied Elvis' voice and songs in preparation (on CD's and DVDs?), do you have a favourite song of his?

Congratulations Lee.The songs we have already heard are brilliant. Your Mum and Dad must be really proud of you, what advice have they given you since you won?

The next theatre role is obviously crucial, and I could personally be quite keen re the idea of JCS. But are plans re that next role already in hand, or not, and have you been very surprised by any serious offers made and/or opportunities that you hadn't anticipated at all?
Posted on November 9, 2007 1:32 PM

Hi Lee. After all the well deserved attention and adulation that you have received are you still able to stay grounded and true to yourself? I do hope the answer is yes. Best of luck with the album.

Congrats on Joseph, show is fantastic - seen it twice and am on my way again on 20th Nov; my question is do you have any connection with a blue/grey Volvo 245 estate and do you like cheese baguettes?! (If you want to know why I want to know, then you'll have to answer my question!)

Your dream was to win the role of Joseph which of course you did and have played it wonderfully. Although you are still 'living your dream', do you now have a new dream and what is it?

Hello Lee, only one burning question: Do you eat the stems of broccoli ?

Hi Lee. There is a track on your album called 'The Best Is Yet To Come', do you think this applies to you and your work?

Like coming to see you in Joseph - once is never enough - Your new version of Paint it Black reminds me of the Stones sound on Their Satanic Majesties Request - was that an influence on its style???

On Jonathan Ross's radio show, you gave yourself 4 out of 10 for handsomeness!! Have you now revised this under-estimation of your looks?

Apparently, Donny Osmond "took away" a few souvenirs from the musical after he recorded the Joseph DVD. What props/costumes would you like to "snaffle" when you leave the show?

Hi Lee, have you ever met David Essex, and did you know the song Gonna make you a Star before you recorded it?

Hugh Jackman went from West End leading man to Hollywood action hero. Would you like your career to eventually progress in that direction? If so would you want to do most of your own stunts as many actors seem to do these days.

Hi Lee, I just saw the show the other day and I thought you were amazing, I was surprised by how much richer your voice is live! My question: What is the weirdest experience you've had at the stage door so far? xx

Hey! My question would be: I know you have received a few pieces of art work from fans, but what do you do with them? I ask this because when you signed my drawing of you, you asked for another for your mum and your agent Claire said she would give it to you personally =] Thank you

Hi Lee, I would love to know how the voting went for the final of Any Dream Will Do. Was it a close run thing or were you way out in the lead? Are you able to tell us what percentage of the votes were yours? The best man definitely won in my opinion :-)

How do you remain true to your own ideas when you now have so many people around you assisting you with your career ie. PR, Agents, etc etc. Who do you use to 'bounce' your own ideas off?.. or would that be telling too much!

Lee when I first saw you on ADWD you won my heart and quite a few others it seems! Joseph is fanstasic and you are absolutely the perfect man for the job. I'm very excited about the album too. So you got your dream to come true and you made it happen through sheer hard work, determination and a positive attitude. My question is: What does a man who has his dream come true dream about now?

Congratulations on all you have achieved and that which you will achieve. Ok, you are at home and you are told you have to leave immediatley you can only take your 3 most prized possesions with you, what are they?

Thanks for all your hard work, Lee. You and the company have made Joseph a truly Amazing show! The album is exciting, but I wonder if it was intentional to leave songs from musicals off it (apart from Any Dream Will Do, of course); please tell us you haven't abandoned MT for pop! Also, what's the most difficult part of your fame?

Hi Lee, As Bill Kenwright said, you are a wonderful interpreter of lyrics. What draws you to a song first, the emotion, melody, the lyric or one particular phrase? I would choose a melodic line e.g. in " Don't Wanna Talk About It" it would be "How you broke my heart."

Hi Lee - First of all sex question is NOT from me! My question is this..... if ALW did a remake of Jesus Christ Superstar would you consider playing the main man, I think it would be a fab role for you and would love to see the show - bit young first time around so missed it. Fingers crossed ALW considers this? Ruthie xx

Hi Lee First of all thank you so much for being true to your word and giving us a "great show" We have been this year and will be coming again in April. I thought your Mac The Knife was superb on ADWD and frequently watch the video on YouTube. My question is:- Do you enjoy that genre of music (swing) also would you do a one man show and tske it on tour. If so can we have dates. Thanks again Lee. See you in April

Whoops! - made a mistake in my posting yesterday - the car I meant to ask you about was a Volvo 240 estate (not a 245 and it makes all the difference!!)and also have you ever been to Scarborough? Again if you want to know why I want to know then ask the questions!

Lee, Your parents must be incredibly proud of you and rightly so. Considering how busy and hectic your life is at the moment, do you see and speak to them on a regular basis, and does your mum say the sort of things that all us mums do i.e. are you eating enough and looking after yourself etc etc….

Lee, thank you for the music. I'll be coming to see your show for the second time in Apil - crossing off the days! I've heard you're a fan of the Stereophonics. Who else do you listen to when you're relaxing?

Hi Lee! I've seen you in Joseph twice now and they were both absolutely brilliant performances! I also cannot wait for your album to come out, the songs sound fantastic! Because I am a complete bookworm I was wondering in your free time (thats if you get that much!!!) do you like reading any books? If so, what type of books do you like to read?

Hi Lee, congratulations on your success so far and good luck with your forthcoming album and single. I know that you do a lot of work for charity and support both Children in Need and The Mushroom Theatre Company. I know that you have already provided personal items for raffle or auction to raise money and I'd like to know whether you would ever consider putting yourself up for raffle. A lunch date, or an hour with Lee Mead would surely raise a fortune. Heck I'd take out a loan for just 10 minutes. :)

Hi Lee - I am old enough to remember David Essex singing Gonna make you a Star - I even still have my 45! When he performed it the audience joined in when the question was asked 'is he more than a pretty face' answer 'I don't think so'! So my question is - do you mind all the comments and questions about your appearance and would you rather be asked more about your thoughts and opinions?
Posted on November 11, 2007 1:20 AM

Jackee
Lee, did you have much input into the video for Gonna Make You a Star? Can you explain the thinking behind the "story" for the video and also why you chose that song for the single rather than Paint it Black as some of your fans were hoping?
Posted on November 11, 2007 7:56 AM

Hi, my question to Lee ... Paint it Black was a stand out performance for you on ADWD, what were your first thoughts when you were told you were singing it, were you concerned at all, and did you think it would be as popular as it has been?

Yep, another question from me.. Well it's three actually, (yeah I'm greedy), but who's counting. You've covered Stronger. Are we to take it then that you're a Sugababes fan?? If so, was Stronger you're choice of song of theirs to cover? If not, then why that one? And if you could have chosen, what song of theirs would you chosen to cover? Joolz x

Would you have preferred a more traditional audition process, away from the TV cameras, to win the part of Joseph? Or did you relish the opportunity to have time to demonstrate a far greater repertoire and musical styles? (Oh, and where do they hide your mic-pack when you are only wearing a loincloth?!)

Do you like pesto? And, what's your favourite sleeping position.... front, on your back or on your side cuddling your pillow? By the way, loving your new pop album and so pleased for you that it's doing so well in the pre-release charts.... I would love to hear an MT album from you too....but a special request from me, if you do another pop album can you please include 'Leave Right Now' and 'Just The Way You Are'? PLEASE!!!?

Hi Lee, such well deserved success in Jospeh and can't wait for the new album and single. I get a lump in my throat when I listen to you singing You Raise Me Up with Josh Groban. Is there a song that moves you to tears and if so, why?

You've spoken of a 'dancing banana' moment in your past ... is there photographic, or even better, video evidence of this? and are you prepared to share it with the nation? More seriously, congratulations on your hard-earned and well-deserved success in Joseph and, from the teasing little clips we've heard so far, on producing a stunning debut album.

Josh Groban has already confirmed that he is singing at the Andrew Lloyd Webber 60th birthday concert. Are you? And presuming so, what would you have most liked to have been given the chance to sing that isn't from Joseph?

Lee, you support several charities including Mildmay. Why is this particular charity important to you and have you downloaded their charity song to help them reach the world record attempt? Loving everything you do, and Joseph was amazing. Congratulations to you and all the cast.

Noticed that Josh Groban was wearing lifts when you sang together. Also noticed that comparitive heights seemed to vary a bit on ADWD. Was there judicious use of lifts on the show and how did relative actual heights compare?

Hi Lee, I'm so proud of what you have achieved this year - your appeal is universal! Have seen you at The Mermaid and in Joseph and your voice is fantastic live. I love the new album clips and read with interest how important it is to you to have an "integrity" to your music. Am very interested to learn how the aftersounds to your voice are created during the recording. Looking forward to seeing your TV performances over the next few weeks!

Was lucky enough to be able to bunk off work today and come to see you at HMV. Congratulations on the performance you are "more, so much more than a pretty face!" I would like to know as "Sarfend's" greatest export what would make you most proud winning an Olivier or being asked to open the Air Show ;-)lol. Good Luck with all your present and future endevours. I heard a rumour they are to make a musical film version of Sunset Boulevard, I think you would be perfect for Joe Gillis xx
