Sofa Surfing With Craig David
London, 2007
Interview by Katie Spain
What do you get when you mix the funky sounds of David Bowie and British crooner Craig David? Easy... one of the catchiest tunes of the minute.
I've never really been a Craig David fan. Sure, I gyrated to his tunes during my clubbing days but I never bought and album or put his posters above my bed; that honour went to Jon Bon Jovi and Eddie Vedder. Maybe I like them older, scruffier and long haired - or maybe both Craig and I have come of age. Whatever the reason, his latest single 'Hot Stuff' hit my g-g-g-great spot.
Yep, Mr David is back. His extremely danceable fourth album Trust Me was released on November 12th and followed a series of intimate gigs at the Jazzy Ronnie Scotts in London. As a non Craig David fanatic, I was blown away by his explosive live set. Sure enough, I knew most of the words, the man looked freshly buffed up and his voice worked some serious RnB magic.
When I got the chance to chat to Craig in a Soho hotel, I agreed with genuine interest. How did this man of 26 become one of the UK's best artists. And where the hell has he been for the last five years? I walked in expecting an ago-packed success story - I came out having met one of the nicest and genuinely funny men I've interviewed. You know what, hes one hell of a charmer too. Conversation flowed and as I reminded myself not to mention Bo Selecta, we talked about the things that are really important in David-ville; intimate gigs, Janet Jackson and of course, the road to getting ripped.

Keep your eye on the site for our five-part video interview. We'll upload a new segment each day.
Hot Stuff was released on November 5th, followed by his brand new album Trust Me on November 12th.
