David Ford’s latest single features a gentle, acoustic, Celtic, swaying backing coupled with a brooding, moody and unimaginative delivery of the affirmation that “I’m alright now”. Some of Ford’s imagery and syllabic intonations have the hallmarks of Tom Waites, yet Ford’s voice and vision lack the depth and insight required to carry such weight. With his vastly inflated sense of self-importance and the single’s grand overproduction, a single like this is probably destined for commercial greatness; which is quite sad, really.
