Aesop Rock

29th January – 4th February 2008
Brighton | London | Nottingham | Dublin | Edinburgh

2007 saw Aesop Rock (aka Ian Bavitz) deliver his full-length album ‘None Shall Pass’ on Definitive Jux to great critical acclaim. Now, the man Q Magazine noted as being “Lauded in alternative rap circles” is back touring on UK soil for the first time in three years taking on dates in Brighton, London, Nottingham, Dublin and Edinburgh respectively. DJ Big Wiz – who handles the cuts on his latest album– will be on the road with Aesop as DJ support alongside fellow Def Jukie Rob Sonic.

In addition to releasing ‘None Shall Pass’ last year, Aesop also released a forty five minute workout mix for Nike+, a short story in collaboration with visual artist Jeremy Fish, and scored music for two short films.

Aesop Rock is responsible for all but revolutionizing the entire face of underground hip-hop in the early portion of this decade with a slew of potent and influential releases such as 2000's ‘Float’ LP, 2001's monumental ‘Labor Days’ LP, and 2003's ‘Bazooka Tooth’ and his most recent EP/book, 2004's ‘Fast Cars, Danger, Fire and Knives’.

On his latest album ‘None Shall Pass’ various people step in to help including Aes's long-time production partner Blockhead, Def Jux owner El-P and label mate Rob Sonic, whilst Aesop himself confidently produces a large portion of the album. DJ Big Wiz has a large presence on the album, appearing on thirteen out of fourteen tracks and offering a devastating rebuttal to those that say the art of scratching is dead, whilst The Mountain Goats’ John Darnielle tentatively crops up on the album closer ‘Coffee’.

Come see what all the fuss is about as he tours the UK through late January and early February.

Tuesday 29th January Komedia, Brighton – Doors 8:30pm
Wednesday 30th January Cargo, London – Doors 8:00pm
Thursday 31st January Dogma, Nottingham – Doors 10:00pm
Saturday 2nd February – Crawdaddy, Dublin – Doors 8:00pm
Monday 4th February - Voodoo Rooms, Edinburgh – Doors 8:00pm
