If one of your make-or-break New Year’s resolutions is: “must get out more”, it’s high time to take a look ahead and see what 2008 has to offer in terms of entertainment that’s worth leaving home for.

It’s a packed programme, here are just some of the highlights:

JANUARY

The Spice Girls
They’ve had their fair share of babies, boob jobs and bad hair days, while their fortunes, along their weight, have been up and down like a yo-yo over the years, but now the Spice Girls are back on top form. Their reunion concert kicks off at London’s O2 Arena, where it runs until January 22, before moving on to Manchester from January 23-26.

As Strictly Come Dancing quick-steps from TV to live tour, it certainly takes two to tango. Pro-celebrity couples are put through their paces in front of judges Arlene Philips, Len Goodman and Craig Revel Horwood. Tour dates from January 18 to February 16 at venues including Glasgow, Newcastle, Nottingham, Sheffield and London.

Chris Rock
Comedian Chris Rock comes to the UK for a stint of stand-up. This quick-witted and often foul-mouthed performer has forged a TV and film career as an actor, writer, producer and director. Selected dates in London and Birmingham from now until Jan 26.

Cirque du Soleil
Deep in the forest something stirs…sky diving into the shadowy depths of an enchanted wood, a young man discovers a world of mystical and magical creatures. Cirque du Soleil presents Varekai from now until February 3 at London’s Albert Hall.

Ewan McGregor in Othello
The jealous torment of Shakespeare’s Othello, and its tragic consequences, will have you reaching for your hanky. Ewan McGregor takes on the role at the Donmar Warehouse in London from now until February 23.

FEBRUARY

For those who enjoy the posturing and rivalry that goes to make up the X Factor (and that’s not just the contestants, but sometimes the panelists - as in Sharon Osbourne’s clashes with Danni Minogue) here’s a 2008 Live version of the popular TV show. From February 11- March 21 at a wide range of venues across the UK.

MARCH

Dara O'Briain
Dara O’Briain, fast becoming a familiar face on our TV screens as a quiz show host and top-notch stand-up, takes his unique brand of wit to the stage. If you’re keen to see him live, be prepared – he likes to fire questions at the audience. Selected dates in March, April and May at various venues.

APRIL

Gone With The Wind
Gone with the Wind, an epic romantic novel set in the American civil war, was made into a classic film starring Vivienne Leigh as Southern belle Scarlett O’Hara, and is now being given its second wind as a musical. In London’s West End from April 5.

John Barrowman
Fans of Cap’n Jack Harkness from Doctor Who and its sci-fi spin-off (and anagram) Torchwood might be interested to see actor John Barrowman in a different guise. John is embarking on a solo tour to showcase his musical talents and promote his new album, Another Side. April 7-17 in Cardiff, Nottingham, Bristol, Manchester and Brighton.

MAY

Bruce Springsteen

The Boss is back.. From "Born to Run" to "Dancing in the Dark" Bruce Springsteen’s hits have been delighting generations of fans over the years. Catch him at the end of May (28 – 31) in Manchester, London and Dublin, or on June 14 in Cardiff.

JUNE

Isle Of Wight Festival
Friday 13 is going to prove lucky for some in June, as it’s the date of the Isle of Wight festival. If you think Sting looks cute with a lute, this is the place to be, with the Police topping the bill, along with Kaiser Chiefs and the Sex Pistols. The line-up also features Lily Allen, KT Tunstall and Kate Nash. Friday June 13, Newport, Isle of Wight.

JUNE, JULY AND AUGUST

Kylie Minogue
The summer belongs to Kylie, whose UK tour starts June 26 and runs til August 2. The diminutive pop diva will be putting on the glitz in Belfast, Glasgow, Newcastle, Manchester and London.

SEPTEMBER, OCTOBER, NOVEMBER

Fans of the Mighty Boosh will be keen to see the TV show’s zany stars Noel Fielding and Julian Barret live on stage in September, October and November. The ambitious tour takes in Edinburgh, Glasgow, York, Harrogate, Buxton, Blackpool, Liverpool, Nottingham, Brixton, Portsmouth, Plymouth, Bournemouth, Brighton….those two will certainly be getting around.

Lee Evans
Funny man Lee Evans has made his name with a self-styled form of physical comedy combining slapstick and general goofing around, which found a worldwide audience when he broke into the movie business. He’s making a welcome return to his roots on the comedy circuit to delight live audiences with his antics. Various dates and venues from September 6 to November 15.

DECEMBER

The seasons come full circle as the next round of pantos and Christmas spectaculars gets under way. But that’s a long way ahead….Oh, yes it is!
