Radiohead
Wednesday 16th Jan, 93 Feet East
Review By Zarina Raja
You waited ten hours? TEN HOURS? It was something that I never thought I would do. As a friend said the next day, If I know you at all, I imagine that you wanted to kill yourself several times that day. Actually, I didnt. I think it was fun?!
Queuing for ten hours does seem pretty extreme, but Im sure that everyone has a band that they would queue the whole day for?
When I found out Radiohead were scheduled to play at Rough Trade on Brick Lane, I could hardly contain my glee. I skipped my way towards the small line at about midday, clutching a brown bag full of food and drink; it was going to be one hellova wait.
Anyway, I dont want to talk about the ten hour queue anymore. Thats all people have asked me about. What did you do for ten hours? Who cares what I did for ten hours, I got to see my all time favourite band in a tiny venue and for FREE, so lets talk about that.
If you have never seen Radiohead live, then you need to especially if you are one of those ridiculously annoying people that say Radiohead are boring, dull or depressing.

Wednesdays 93 Feet East gig was far from boring. The atmosphere was electric as Thom and the boys casually wondered onto the stage, obviously bemused by the fact that people had spent the whole day, outside in the cold, waiting for them. The thick, sweaty air and charged crowd added to the intensity of the gig.
Radiohead kicked off their set with 15 Step. They then proceeded to play the rest of In Rainbows in its entirety, My Iron Lung, National Anthem, You and Whose Army and The Bends.
Thom Yorke was in high spirits as he chatted between songs and made a joke about the dodgy notes at the start of Reckoner. The intimacy of the gig was definitely the cherry on a deliciously iced cake. Even those as the back of the venue had an incredible view of the band being only (at a random guess) five or six meters away.
Highlight of the night if I have to pick only one was In Rainbows All I Need; beautifully stifling and unstoppably mesmerizing. My Iron Lung was pretty amazing too.

It's only January and I have already secured my top gig of 2008. I cant imagine anything beating an hour and a half of Radiohead induced magic. The thudding bass notes, the jarring piano, the crunching guitars and Thom Yorkes heart-stopping, lingering vocals are a tough act to follow.
Buy Radiohead tickets.
Were you there too? Tell us what you thought of the gig.
