COMPETITION: Win two Chris Rea tickets

Chris Rea

Chris Rea rasped his way into our hearts in the mid-eighties, hitting the big time in 1989 with his fantastic album, Road To Hell. For the years that followed, he ducked in and out of the charts with a succession of hits, going from Rock to Blues.

After becoming ill and being given the odds of a 50% survival rate, Chris’ view towards his music drastically changed. This near death experience showed him that time was precious and accentuated his priorities. He promised himself that he would follow his own musical path instead of succumbing to the influence of an industry that had shackled his creative control.

Chris began to embark on his dream and created his Blues sound. He went on to sell in excess of 150,000 copies of 'Dancing Down the Stony Road' proving, not for the first time, his instinct was correct.

2008 will see the return on Chris Rea under the guise of two new musical creations; The Delmonts and The Fabulous Hoffner Bluenotes.

Hand-in-hand with The Fabulous Hoffner Bluenotes comes a Spring tour.

To celebrate the return of Chris Rea, we have two tickets for his gig at the Birmingham Symphony Hall on Sat 22nd March.

To enter our competition, simply leave a comment below telling us what your most memorable gig is.

The winner will be picked at random on the 17th March at 2pm and notified by email.

The Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain at the Big Chill. I had no idea what to expect but was blown away by the big band with the little ukuleles. Musical comedy genius :)

My most memorable gig was 1982 at Roundhay Park in Leeds when we went to see the Rolling Stones in Leeds first outdoor concert. It was a scorching hot day and the music was fantastic. A day never to be forgotten

The first concert I saw with Chris was decades ago in Southampton,I had heard him on Radio Caroline in the days before he was on national radio. My wife and I have been hooked on his music ever since.

My most memorable gig was the last ever Split Enz performance in Christchurch, must be coming up 17 years ago; quite a long time. Good old fashioned kiwi rock! It was absolutely wicked! (Tim and Neil Finn.. kiwis, not aussies)

the smiths at the dome, brighton, bloody years ago! i fought for a piece of morrissey's shirt and then went to the stage door and was beckoned to get on the tour bus by johnny marr. unfortunately i was just too shy to take him up on his offer!

Humble Pie fronted by the late great Steve Marriot at Wolverhamptobn Civic Hall back in the early seventies. Rocking great that shook the foundations of this otherwise spartan edifice. Too late to say to Steve - be careful it ...'Candles can cause fires'.

The WHO back in the mid 1960's at the Malvern Winter Gardens for sheer power and exitement that shook the old building and everyone in it. Never to be forgotten

My most memorable gig would have to be.......Harry Connect jr. @ Octave8.He spontaneously uped from his restaurant seat after gobbling his meal and began to perform his remarkable jazz classics..so intimate yet rewarding.

My most memorable concert was seeing Raymond Froggatt. We joined a rather sedate looking middle aged audience and then were amazed when the majority peeled off their outer wear to reveal sweatshirts with frog motifs and then started waving frog toys in the air when the show began!

My most memorable Chris Rea concert was at Whitley Bay Ice Rink (very intimate) years ago. The best bit was seeing him having a pint in the pub over the road. He is so 'not celebrity' I love him. Before that would be the Beatles at Newcastle City Hall. My dad waited outside in the car until the end. You could in those days.

My most memorable (and first ever!) concert was Leonard Cohen at the Royal Albert Hall in 1970, which I was invited to by a friend, when I was 12. I presumed she'd bought tickets but, when we got there, she made us wait outside for 15 mins after the start time, then we walked in and she told the usherette we'd just popped out and we were going back to our mum! Then we climbed all the way up to the standing gallery at the top. Cohen was young, raw and brilliant, and somehow, being that high, with us looking down at this moody figure on the stage, it strangely actually added to the atmosphere. I especially remember Suzanne and Bird on the Wire being so emotionally-charged that some women nearby were crying! I still feel privileged to have seen him just just three years after his first album debuted and took the world by storm.

My most memorable concert was sitting in the rain outside the NEC last year during one of the outdoor concerts. We had tickets to the concert the next night but the weather was even worse then so I could not face getting drenched again.

Prince at O2 last year actually gave me shivers down my spine he was so good. I had gone on a good night. He played different sets on different nights. I then went twice again, being lucky enough to get tickets for future shows. Unfortunately those other nights were not as good. That'll teach me to be greedy.

My most memorable concert was Madonna at Earls Court, where me and my sisters had seats near the front. The music, singing and dancing was great. Madonna was amazing, and she has the looks and body of someone in her early twenties - she put us all to shame!!!

The best gig that I went to was Dire Straights in 1985 - I took my son to his first gig. It was great to share his enjoyment of a good group.
