YES KING
Rock This World
Yesking Records
Review by Peter Coulston
Yes King is the brainchild of production duo, Mark Rae and Rhys Adams, and I was introduced to them through one of their excellent live outings at the Jazz Café. On that occasion, they availed themselves of considerable talent in the vocal and instrumental area and this album is in the same vein. There is something for everyone here, beginning with disco rap from Sweetie Irie. Theres some good reggae from Ayak, a young female singer/rapper who appears on many of the tracks, and rap from Mystro who is also featured later on. War is Mexican ska from Kenny Knots, who also features on the title track, a funky rap that he shares with Mystro and Dawn Penn. Ayak is back for the gospel soul track, 40 Days Long, followed by Love Revolution which visits Gil Scott-Heron and Marc Bolan in its funky soul delivery. Tomorrow Is Another Day is laid back ska from Prezident Brown and Claudes Theme is an instrumental mix of laid back, classy beats with synths and bass doing their thing. You get a few bonus track remixes thrown in and, overall, this is a good album which deserves many revisits if this is your type of music. I found much to like about it and will be checking it out again soon.
Rock This World is released on 5th March 2008.
