Some say the best things to come out of Manchester are Coronation Street and mini-skirts. They're wrong; The bands ain't half bad either. In fact, some of them are good enough to win competitions... and we're not talking The X-Factor folks (gawd help us). Mancunian post-rock quintet Spokes hit headlines when they recently won the ‘Sound 08’ unsigned acts initiative.
The lads landed themselves a spot on the Go North stage at Scotland's Rock Ness Festival. They also scored airplay for their winning track ‘Young People! All Together’ on Xfm.
Matt Baty said “Winning Sound 08 is one of the best things that has happened to us as a band. It means we can get the kind of exposure we could only have dreamed of. We're also really excited to be given the opportunity to play our music at a professional level at Rock Ness and experience what it's like to play a high profile event. It's also going to give us a fantastic platform to continue progressing as a band.”
Over 2,000 tracks were entered into the competition. Now that's worth a hefty pat on the back right?
