Estelle feat. Kanye West
American Boy
Review by Natalie Aquilina
Estelles been through a fair bit. She has been both adored and ignored by English fans. It can be difficult for a young artist to take. But young Londoner Estelle did what anyone would do in that situation; grabbed a bag and jetted off to the US where the friends are cool and the record deals are sweet.
Estelle has found herself some big time pals Kanye, WillIam, Legend, Mark Ronson, Wyclef Jean and Gnarls Barkleys Cee-Lo Green. And all of them have a part to play on her new album Shine.
Kanye lends his vocal stylings to the single, but the attitude is definitely supplied by Estelles herself. Bringing it London in the US, I ask can they take it? Spittin words like wargwan and bredrin. Even Kanye is keeping it UK real, like a London bloke in his verse.
Estelle is all kinds of British and wont change what she says for her American home. But she likes what she sees in America. She wants to go all around and feel every corner. And hey Estelle, I like this song.
You get to hear more of her simple soul voice on this track, kinda Sade in its tone. It has a softness you dont normally associate with Estelle. Interesting track, interesting move along for Estelle. I think she has shown both the UK and US enough in this stand out track for us all to be interested in her and what shes bringing in her new album.
Download release March 17th, hardcopy release March 24th.
