Jose Gonzalez
Killing for Love
Review by Ash Akhtar
If youve not seen the Swede-songwriters video for his latest single, its worth checking out. Is it me, or is he looking more and more like a young Yusuf Islam (Cat Stevens)?
Though brimming with Joses rhythmic, folksome witterings on love, hate and compassion, Jose combines a great vocal and guitar hook for this, his third single. From the moment Jose spanks out his signature style droning riff that leads the song right down to the clatter of his nylon-strung guitar that closes it, this is an engaging and frequently beautiful song. Aside from the huge production, Killing For Love sounds like it could have been recorded by John Martyn in the mid-70s; and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.
