Elissa Franceschi
Touch
Review by Peter Coulston
I saw this young lady at the Bedford last week and was impressed by her live performance, as you will see if you check out my Last Week In London column. This album is a very keyboard led collection of her songs that is stripped to the bone to showcase the quality of the material. There is some percussion and cello in there, but the songs take front stage. Elissas voice is delicate but well controlled and the title track which opens the album instantly holds the listeners attention, as does the last track Rocks and Tears. In between there are strong rocky ballads like 6am and Under and Over and more upbeat entries like In The Air and War. Glass sounds a bit like Alanis Morrisettes Ironic in places, but finds its own way overall. While there are a few ladies around at the moment doing similar stuff, I like the simplicity of this album and Elissas vocals are perfect for the material on show.
