The Molotovs
Wednesday 23rd April
93 Feet East
Review By Stacey Williamson
Treading the boards of the intimate stage at 93 Feet East, where the likes of Radiohead have stood before, is a dazzling gem of a band. Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you, The Molotovs!
This five piece band hailing from Oxfordshire, currently unsigned, can really command the stage. Keeping the Shoreditch skinny jean brigade captivated and almost memorized with their powerful - and at times - haunting set.
Will is the doe-eyed front man on vocals and guitar, with a voice that could melt the butter on your toast, even on a dreary London Monday morning, and taking his inspiration from The Walkman, Frank Sinatra and The Rapture.
With vocal tones reminiscent of Jeff Buckley, Will describes The Molotovs as Pop with atmosphere.
Multi-talented Iain has a cool laid back stance with his bass slung over one shoulder and a saxophone over the other. Iain flourishes musically with his crisp penetrating bass lines.
The Molotovs cant help but grab your attention. These guys are just as at home playing intense powerful numbers, accompanied by some awesome piano playing (that at times is almost organ like), as they are playing bouncy upbeat songs such as An Acre of Glass.
If you close your eyes, at times, this enigmatic band could very well be Muse in the early years. With such enthusiasm and thoughtful lyrics, they arent just here for the sake of being cool. They really appear to love what they do, and if you go and check them out, Im sure you will too.
Definitely one to watch out for. For these guys, it's starlight all the way.
The Molotovs play Astoria 2 Thursday 1st May
