Ben Esser
I Love You/Long Arm
Review by Jamie Stangroom
Im always slightly dubious about someone whos played in a Pontins cover band before hitting the mainstream but then I remember that we all start somewhere, so it would be unfair for me to judge one on their beginnings. For Ben Esser this meant ditching the family entertainment scene for a spell of bedroom production and I dont mean a binge of youporn, although this can't be completely ruled out, after all I hear that it is pretty amazing; loads of porn all in one place and its free, free I tell you
Anyway porn aside, like the long list of bedroom artists before him, whos alumini include Calvin Harris and erm, well Daniel Bedingfield, Esser wrote, sung, recorded and produced this debut single all by himself, cutting and pasting every single note.
But just because he worked solitary and hard (stop it now that's disgusting, come on, Jon Bon Jovi lives on this planet show some respect.) doesnt mean Im taking sympathy on him, nope Im not having it, Luke Skywalker didnt get any help when he had to take out Darth Vader, the evil Emperor and escape a burning Death Star all at once, did he? Where were those Ewoks? And where were you when poor Ben Esser was stuck in his bedroom with just a computer for a friend, staring vacantly out of the window into a sky darker than his cold coffee, longing for a human companion. Where were you? Sitting at home watching porn thats where, Or at least I probably was, but it is free
The song itself might be a grower but at the moment I like it when it ends.
Ben Esser's new single "I Love You"/"Long Arm" is out now on Merok.
