My Year in Lists
Review by Zakia Uddin
The latest Lost Campesinos! single is a sweet summery track about a relationship that begins with a stationary exchange. If you are the kind of person who adores stickers and glitter and jelly shoes, this song will make you swoon. Its a pop mini-epic with craft project instructions for lovers. The alternating boy-girl vocals are sung over crashing glockenspiels, and drums which build into a melody thats barely discernable at first. The lyrics keep catching you, like glittery meat hooks. Lines like Nothing says I miss you/quite like poetry cut into your door with a stanley knife are threaded through this song. If you havent been missing anyone, youll want to. It might also be the only song ever with an extended metaphor about stationery and the only song that has the phrase extended metaphor in it. Whats not to like?
