Review by Kate Spieg
'Nick Cave has still got it. You cant put on that kind of cool '
The crowd, as youd expect, a complete mix of the dregs and heights of society, were ready for him, lapping up every song. With his long black hair and moustache, his lean figure stalked the stage, coming a hairs breadth from the audience before saying Im not going to touch You
No-one moves like this anymore, those funky moves with those long, long legs, flicking the mike cord around The bain of my life, he says before giving it an almighty tug and striding to the other side of the stage technicians running onto stage in his wake to repair any damage.
The Bad Seeds four guitars, violin and two drum kits were sheer quality, while Nicks ever haunting and powerful voice carried you back to all the times youve listened to, sat, danced, cried, smoked to, and made mix-tapes of his songs.
I felt none of the yeah skip over the new stuff bring on the old classics, the new album Dig Lazarus Dig is evidence once again of Nick Caves ever developing and changing style. While the old songs Tupelo, The Ship Song, Red Right Hand, and the wonderful Into My Arms didnt disappoint; epic through his infectious warmth and obvious love of performing his music.
When technical problems delayed one of the encore songs and the crow started an ironic slow handclap Nick replied You c**ts, you f****ing London c**ts, before blowing a kiss to the audience and launching into Call Upon the Author to Explain, one of my favourites from the new album.
This man is a legend. Without doubt, this was up there with my best-ever gigs. Especially as none other than PJ Harvey slipped graciously into the seat in the dark next to me fifteen minutes in. Of course she was there to see him, of course she was. I nearly melted into my seat Talking of which, Id better get back to gazing at my autograph now.
