Mystery Jets
Two Doors Down
Review by Joanne Conlon
Mystery Jets have always been a tad on the peculiar side; the ramshackle sounds of their debut album making dens, a line up including a dad and the erratic twists and turns of songs like Alas Agnes. But alas, with the release of new album 21 signifying their growth and coming of age - it appears theyve had a bit of a re-think. Theyve lost the old bloke and also produced one of the catchiest pop songs of the year with Two Doors Down!
Theres no getting around the root of the song, which, like the rest of 21, clearly embraces all things eighties. But Two Doors Down has something a bit more special about it. The idea is simple: I think Im in love with the girl who lives two doors down, the tune is pop perfection, inspired by glossy eighties production and bringing to mind a montage of the kind of films that leave you feeling all warm and nostalgic: 3 men and a baby, The Goonies, Big pure eighties cheese! With a wham-esque video to match and plenty of oooohs and aaaahhhs to sing along to, Mystery Jets have armed us with the ideal anthem to tackle all dance floors, summer bbqs and just have downright fun with!
