Flo Rida
Elevator
Review By Chris Carruthers
Despite seeing huge success, multiple awards, and seemingly having worked particularly hard to get there, this track is just more of the same, lacking character and conviction. Even Timbalands tight production couldn't make this release any more than it is; average.
To be fair to Flo Rida, you get the impression a live show could have potential, however, attempting to harness this style in the studio has had substandard results, even with Timbaland at the helm.
Every aspect of this track has an over used feel, from the shaker/clap beat to the female 'uh huh/yeah' backing vocals and repetitive unimaginative hook - it just seems old. It's almost ironic that the instrumental track should be better than the single.
It seems a shame and an insight into the power of commercial production that despite the lack of originality or real quality in this single, its pop commercial appeal with its plastic hook will more than likely help it see some popularity, no doubt for short time, until it's just annoying.
