The Fratellis
Somerset House
Thursday 10th July
Review by Arianna Moretuzzo
The evening at the 2008 Summer Series last Thursday took off when a Scotsman appeared above the courtyard of Somerset House and a pipe started to blow. Inevitably, the Union Jack was replaced with The Fratellis red and yellow flag and kicked off the show with Fratelli-tism.
The trio from Glasgow began at dusk and entertained the eager-for-fun crowd with tunes from their latest album Here We Stand and some classics from their debut album. Although many of the songs were new to the public, most sang along to Look Out Sunshine! and My Friend John. It was when Chelsea Dagger hit our ears, that The Fratellis consecrated their anthem. The guitars really took the lead and drums kept up the pace as the band delivering some memorable yet perky tracks.
The quality of the performance was good and the three characters displayed equally mesmerising examples of stage presence. Frontman Jon Fratelli enchanted the public, whilst Barry Fratelli stood quiet and dedicated above his bass and drummer Mince Fratelli appeared possessed. Some families have all the talent.
As predicted by Jon before the gig, it was indeed A good one. The bouncing crowd affirmed the statement when they reacted to the catchy rhythms and chorus of their well known single Mistress Mable. Thanks to the beautiful scenery offered by the 18th century architecture and clear breezy night the varied, not-so-young public definitely enjoyed the pace of a top night out.
The Fratellis release their new single Look Out Sunshine on August 18th. Check out the brand spanking new video.
