Wired Desire‘Barely Illegal’ EP

I have the debut album by Zodiac Mindwarp entitled ‘Tattooed Beat Messiah’. It is by turns superb and appalling, a piece of humour that treads the line between homage and piss-take with the skill of a tightrope walker. It is by far a more sophisticated joke than the Darkness ever managed to be. It also ‘rocks’ and that forgives just about anything.
The authors of ‘Barely Illegal’, a derivative, mean-spirited and totally forgettable collection of retro nonsense are in dire need of a visit from Mr Slam Thunderhyde and his friends. These tedious tales of immature sexuality and implausible hell-raising just bumble along without ever actually demanding anything of the listener. Worst of all they fail to ‘rock’ on any level, which is the very least that one can expect from this kind of thing. The liberal use of exclamation marks in the press release tells you all you need to know. This an exclamation mark of a record, it screams and screams but says nothing.
They claim to have ‘more revs than a Formula One carburettor’. If by that they mean they are hugely unpleasant and strident to listen to, with no class or finesse, produced for one purpose for the delight of a tiny minority, pumping out filth and toxic pollutants then, yes they do.
