INTERVIEW: Gavin Rossdale

Interview by Katie Spain

I have a confession to make; when I was younger, I didn't really 'do' band obsession like my other teenage peers. Sure, I had a brief Hanson fling and wanted Jon Bon Jovi's long haired offspring, but I skipped Pop and steered clear of boy bands. I blame my Metal loving brother and Rocker dad. When my friends asked for Take That for Christmas, I asked for Sixteen Stone by Bush; and thanks to my father, I got it. From then on, nothing hit the spot like Gavin Rossdale’s rugged looks and rasping voice. The band rose to post-grunge rock band fame after their first album was released in 1994. ‘Everything Zen’ and ‘Comedown’ go down in my top ten tunes of all time but although praise was dished out from the states, England was slower to catch on. Bush split up and Rossdale became the lead singer and guitarist of Institute. These days, he's following the solo artist path, is married to Gwen Stefani and is quite the family man.

When the opportunity to interview the painfully handsome muso came up, I couldn't quite believe my luck. Sure, the posters were ripped down long ago, the Bush CD is scratched to buggery and I'm now beyond puberty; but this is a man I have deep respect for. What to ask him? The release of his new album 'WANDERlust' means there's plenty to chat about but we decided to give fans the chance to send in their questions. The response was a big one and the quietly spoken, deep thinker seemed genuinely gratified that you guys took the time to submit them.
