The Parlotones
Here Comes the Man
Release: August 18th
Review by Matt Killeen
Theres something wrong when a track opens with a simple four chord trick and a one string riff like this. It sounds like the first demo by a bunch of 13 year olds. If I wasnt reviewing it Id have turned it off after seven seconds.
I think the Libertins are probably responsible for this adoration of mediocrity. Dont tell me its punk, its nothing of the sort. Its just sounds like a pre-pubescent on his brothers guitar.
It settles down after the vocals come in to be indie-pop rock 101 with the obligatory piano break and plagiaristic chorus. The press release calls this song their unique brand of melody driven rock. There is not one shred of uniqueness about this track. While I accept that theres nothing thats truly new, there is actually an art to producing something that you may have heard before but are willing to suspend disbelief for. These gents do not have the skill or the wit to do this.
Its still playing as Im typing and Ive already forgotten what it sounds like.

This is a cover of a track first released by Boom Boom Room so it wouldn't be unique would it??!!!
