Review by Kim Muller
Although they performed to an almost non-existent audience, Computer Club are diamonds in the rough. No, they didnt formally introduce themselves and were a bit on the anti-social side (thank you very much was pretty much all that was said between tunes) but the pop/rock/indie band definitely have raw and unexpected talent.
Most of the songs have a slow build up, with melodramatic instrumentals; Paul and Jon harmonizing on their guitars. The songs immediately brighten up once Matt slaps the bass and their drummer, Sticks, brings the music to life with his wicked rhythms. Their single Turn the Lights Out is bound to be an instant hit for anyone interested in hearing a mix of both the slow and fast paced music all crammed into one song. The band as individuals were completely boring, but the music and performance was great. Songs like Some Kind of Love and Snobs get your feet tapping and your head banging in no time. The repetitive lyrics make them easy to learn and are guaranteed to stick in your head as you leave the venue! Repetitive solos seemed to be the order of the day too, and it wouldve been good to see the band make their instrumentals sound more interesting. Although at times lead singer Paul was a bit muffled due to a bad case of mike mouth, they pulled off a good few tunes worthy of attention!
Overall the show (although pretty short) was worth going into Camden for. Similar the likes of Bloc Party and Fall out Boy, Computer Club still have a long way to go before they reach chart-toppers, but they definitely seem to have the ability to get there there in the end.
