Nominee Launch Party Review

Shoreditch’s Beach Blanket Babylon played host to this year’s nominee launch party for the MOBO Awards. With the attendance of many stars from the wonderful world of music, such as nominees Bashy, Sway, Jay Sean and DJ Ironik, who had the pretty glamour model Danielle Lloyd fluttering close by his side. Hmmmm….
The night was hosted by BBC 1Xtra’s duo Ace and Vis, who didn’t hold back on any jokes, and guests were entertained with live performances by Best Newcomer nominees Chipmunk and DJ Ironik. MOBO CEO Kanya King was in great spirits, and had said that this year is definitely “the Brits year”.
And so right she is! Normally the Brits are dominated by the American artists, especially in the Best R&B/Soul and Best Hip Hop categories, but not this year. The British musical men and women of MOBO have for once dominated the nominations for the awards. Girl of the moment, Estelle, is up for a staggering five nominations, and Hackney star Leona Lewis is up for three. The two London females will go head to head for best UK female, as well as Duffy, Adele and M.I.A. What a battle it will be!
Rev Run, one third of one of the greatest hip hop outfits of all time, Run DMC shall host the show, with none other than the loud-mouthed, leopard print loving Spice Girl, Mel B. This is going to be one interesting awards show.
The 13th annual MOBO Awards will take place at Wembley arena in London on Wednesday 15th October. It will be broadcasted on the night on BBC THREE, with a 90 minute highlights broadcast on BBC ONE on Friday 17th October.
