Disturbed
Indestructible
Review by Beca Laliberte
According to the band, the title track of Disturbeds fourth album Indestructible is an anthem for the soldiers. Though the meaning of the song is just as superficial as its title, frontman David Draiman clarifies that its meant to be something that would make (the soldiers) feel invincible, take away their fear. Its music to help you feel strong."
Strong and slightly bored - Indestructible finds Chicago, Illinois rockers in their most meticulously calculated album yet, clinging on to the success of their first two albums and clawing at their well... destruction.
As always, the staccato grind of Draimans voice is undeniably recognizable and the song exhibits all of characteristics that make Disturbed the band that it is. Heavily angst ridden and assertive, it is a band that knows exactly what components make up a great rock song. (Along with a zillion other angsty bands that have fueled so many hits over the past twenty years) But unfortunately, Disturbed seem to have misplaced a few ingredients on this one and that trusty formula has finally failed.
The beginning is solid, the chorus is solid and the music is generally solid throughout. Youll tap away to the static guitars and the headbopping-worthy chorus but as the song drags on youll find yourself waiting for that refreshing coda. Some kind of slight divergence from the exact same verse and chorus that drive the whole track forward. Youll wait and wait until the tapping of your foot starts to disappear and slowly but surely, the song drifts into a mesh of repetitive guitars and vocals and an all in all, sleep-inducing melody.
