Youmeatsix
Jealous Minds Think Alike
Review by Beca Laliberte
It goes without saying that Youmeatsix are not going to start any kind of musical revolution. There is nothing new or original here. The bands debut single, Jealous Minds Think Alike has all of the elements of a cute pop-punk song perfectly put in place; The slightly slurred, rhyming lyrics, the Blink182 style harmonies and backing vocals and that insatiable ability to make almost anybody feel bushy-tailed and elated.
Lack of originality and ingenuity aside, there is no escaping the fact that youll be whistling this tune all day long. Lead singer, Josh has a great voice that radiates with an effortless ease to portray the optimistic gloom that characterizes this genre of music. (This is especially audible just before the climax of the song where he sings a couple lines unaccompanied) It is also insanely refreshing to see a band from Surrey diverge from Indie-Mania and refrain from hopping into the singing-in-a-British-accent bandwagon.
All in all, there is musical talent here and a strong sense of authenticity to this band - and that sets Youmeatsix a great deal apart from the many, many similar bands that are out there right now.
