Kano
Album Launch: 140 Grime St
Indigo O2
30th September 2008

Review by Kaydine Biscette

Tuesday 30th September saw the album launch concert for East London MC, Kano, for his third album, 140 Grime St, at London’s Indigo2, Greenwich.

The concert, which was free for fans that were quick enough to apply for a ticket, was dubbed to be the ‘greatest Grime show ever!’ Did the concert live up to its expectations? YES…definitely!

Revellers were entertained by a Dance group, Rock group The Thirst and the Prince of Grime, Tinchy Strider, before Kano took to the stage. A short behind-the-scene spoof clip featuring Kano, his manager and some other faces had the crowd in fits of laughter, and before you knew it, Kano graced the stage in a whisp of smoke.

Performing new material from 140 Grime St, as well as old tracks from London Town and Home Sweet Home, the word-savvy MC had the 2000 audience members hooked….there was even female fans fainting and trying to get on stage with him.

Joining Kano on stage were the likes of Mikey J, singer and producer for track I Like It, the self-pronounced Godfather of Grime, Wiley, on their collaboration Anywhere We Go, Rolex Sweep King, Skepta, donning just an Ed Hardy dressing gown and matching orange socks, and hyper underground Grime MC, Ghetto, who had the crowd in a frenzy, for the track Hunting We Will Go.

Kano was joined on stage towards the end of the show with Tinchy Stryder and JME, as well as the previous performers, except Wiley, who left early, for Kano’s anthem P’s + Q’s, which rounded the concert to an end. All in all, the concert seriously was the greatest Grime show ever! Let’s see who will dare to top it.
